Dead to Me

Hey internet, what's the poop? I have been neglecting my blog for a couple of months. I'm as poor as a church mouse, so in March when I was blind-sided by a veritable hangar bay of extra paying projects I decided to take them all on, and they have eaten away at my personal art time. But I'm finally back, ready to bask in the collective glow of my adoring public. Or at the very least, spout self-aggrandizing guff into the vast, cold, digital abyss that is the web. A fellow zombie fan and illustrator friend of mine is moving away this month, so I decided to make this farewell painting of him to express my feelings the best way I know how. Robot and the Reindeer

Here's a happy little image I just completed yesterday. I say "little" but it actually prints up at 24"x18" and was quite the behemoth (a fact I was reminded of every time I saved the file and had to wait 2-3 minutes for it to finish). It's the second in a series I began with the Go With the Flow poster several months ago. My first attempt had the deer standing in profile with the robot peaking from behind a tree and was among the most mind-numbingly boring compositions I've ever tried to convince myself was worth pursuing. Luckily, a friend of mine was honest enough to tell me the awful truth so I scrapped the whole idea and started over, this time having actually thought things through a little bit.

Michael Phelps

So I was working on a character design today and once I'd finished the face, I realized it wasn't Cowboy Bill, as I was expecting, but rather a very distinct rendering of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Once that realization was made, I had to finish out the sketch. A happy accident just for my blog.Greg White Illustration

Dog Abomination II

So this month I'm illustrating the sequel to a book I did a while back about a pug with one eye. In this book, the lonely pug befriends another dog who's missing a leg. So of course once again I had to do an alternate version of the character to exploit in graphic detail the gruesome possibilities. I give you Jojo, the second dog abomination.

Zeyla! Mistress of a Thousand Worlds

So I finished this piece months ago and completely forgot to ever post it here. A dummy am I. I think it may be my favorite of the pulp posters so far. However, it was such a vicious mother to get done I had to step back from the series for a bit. I'm just now getting back in the mood to tackle the next in the series (for which I already have a sketch and color test done) but with the holiday hoopla about to hit, combined with an insane work schedule, I figure my life would be a lot easier if I spent any meager minutes of free time I can get to yule the tide and chug the nog (both of which sound much more disgusting than I intended). However, there are some illustrations I did last month for a Christmas book that I'm super happy about, and will try to post them in the coming weeks.

Halloweenie

It's about that time of year! For those of you who don't know, I love Halloween. I love watching scary movies, dousing myself with fake blood, the costumes, the haunted houses, pretty much everything but the candy corn (which is an unholy concoction comprised of melted sugar and Bigfoot piss developed for the express purpose of making children cry). For this reason, I try to spread the Halloweenishness throughout the whole month of October rather than blow it all in one night and hold my annual costumed pumpkin carving party the weekend before Halloween. Go With The Flow

So here's a piece I did last month to christen the new paint job in my bathroom. The brain surgeons who owned my house before me painted the bathroom poop brown, which made it a rather unpleasant place for household visitors to make deposits in. It's now an almost-white teal color and I figured a nautical image would be appropriate. But the last thing I wanted were some pastel hippy porpoises or a coral reef. I mean, this is my house, not a timeshare condo in the keys. So here's what I ended up with.
