Thunder...

While my dislike of the Wily siblings was confined to mild irritation, my dislike of Snarf was absolute.  Certainly he had his uses, but EVERYTHING that came out of his sniveling maw was some sort of shrill, whiney complaint.  He was the team wuss, sure, but did he have to be such a simpering wet sandwich about it all the time?  He's essentially like Bill Paxton's Private Hudson from "Aliens."  In the redesign I tried to make him a little more cute and cat-like.  I can forgive a scaredy-cat, but not one that's so vocal about it.

Thunder...

Here we have Tygra, who was probably the most time-consuming character for me to draw in this series.  It took me forever to work out his ribbon-dancing pose, his face, and muscles.  But he was worth it, because he was probably my favorite Thundercat growing up.  But that unitard...what was he thinking?  It looks like a Johnny Weir outfit.

Thunder...

Here are WilyKit and WilyKat, the obligatory kid characters that were supposed to make us as children relate to the Thundercats team.  However even as a child I found these two grating and obnoxious.  WilyKit with her Bride-of-Frankenstein hair and WilyKat with his Civil War-era sideburns didn't connect with me at all.  I just wanted to lock them and Snarf in a kennel together with no food and see who resorted to cannibalism first.  I was much more interested in being Lion-O or Tygra in those days.  That said, I really enjoyed re-designing them.  Maybe they're not so horrible after all.

Thunder...

And here is Cheetara.  More to come in the very near future.  Check back this week for more of the team!

Thunder...

It's a good thing Panthro had those suspenders to keep his bikini bottoms up.  And the spikes reminded you that he was tough...or possibly the first cartoon leather daddy.  Keep a close eye on this space over the next week as the rest of the team shows up!

Phat Status XX

Holy moly, has it really been 8 months since my last Phat Status update?  I could trot out any number of excuses for the drop-off, but the reality is that the well just ran dry for a bit, so I've been devoting time to pretty, less emotionally complicated artistic pursuits (which you can buy here, btw).  But the interim has allowed me time to develop new phobias, insecurities, and self-doubts, and thus ideas for at least a few new comics to come.  Enjoy!
